Morning Quickies: Jane Fonda Talks Body Image & Bulimia

  • Jane Fonda opened up to Harper's Bazaar about her lifelong body image issues. "I wasn't very happy from, I would say, puberty to 50? It took me a long time," she told the magazine. "It was in my 40s, and if you suffer from bulimia, the older you get, the worse it gets. It takes longer to recover from a bout. I had a career, I was winning awards, I was supporting nonprofits, I had a family." Eventually Fonda just had to quit: "I had to make a choice: I live or I die." She says her father, the actor Henry Fonda, made her feel like her only value was in her appearance. "I was raised in the '50s," she said. "I was taught by my father that how I looked was all that mattered, frankly. He was a good man, and I was mad for him, but he sent messages to me that fathers should not send: Unless you look perfect, you're not going to be loved." How sad/fortunate for her that in late adulthood, she has finally found peace with her body. [ONTD]
  • Palin pile-on redux: Mercede Johnston, sister of Levi Johnston, posed for Playboy and talked smacked about Sarah Palin (of course). "I think she'd have had a mental breakdown [if elected president]," Johnston told the magazine. "As governor she quit on us. What does that say about her?" I don't disagree on this one, but you still have to consider the source. [NY Post]
